BEIJING, August 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday pledged guests from all over the world could appreciate the cultures of different countries during the Beijing Olympic Games.
"Holding Olympic cultural activities to promote cultural exchange has always been a great concern and well-arranged by the Olympic Games host cities," Hu said in a joint interview with journalists from 25 news organizations around the world.
He said the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) had been holding Olympic cultural festivals in Beijing, Hong Kong, Qingdao and Shanghai annually since 2003.
"The sixth 2008 Olympic Cultural Festival was held in June and will last to September, comprising 3,000 sessions various cultural activities."
Hu added the Olympic Village had also arranged cultural activities of different countries and regions, featuring different national customs.
He also expressed his concern for the performance of all the athletes in the Olympics, saying he wished them success in the Games.
"I hope the Chinese athletes can communicate with athletes from other countries and be their best in the Games."
