Xinjiang border police apologizes to Japanese reporters after clash

KASHI, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Officials with border police of Kashi city, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the local foreign affair department made an apology Tuesday to two Japanese reporters after they clashed late Monday night.

The two reporters from Japanese news organizations clashed with local border police when they tried to film a restricted area controlled by border police.

The reporters went to Kashi to cover a violent raid on border police Monday which left at least 16 border policemen killed and 16 others injured.
