BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhuanet) -- People's Daily, the leading newspaper in China, will carry on Thursday a commentary which calls for creating a new situation for the work of the the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), or the country's advisory body.

The paper made the commentary on the basis of a proposal by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which summarized the historical experiences of CPPCC work in the past more than 50 years and gave a detailed explanation of the nature, position, role, functions, goal and working principles.

Consultation among different circles of the people before making major decisions is a key form of China's socialist democracy, said the paper.

Giving full play of CPPCC could facilitate the mobilization of all active factors to build a harmonious society in China and is of great significance in consolidating and developing the country's existing united front, it said. Enditem
