Fireworks display to mark National Day in HK

HONG KONG, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong will hold a fireworks display over the Victoria Harbor on Oct. 1 to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, said the sponsor here Thursday.

The joint sponsors -- Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce and Tak Sing Alliance Holdings Ltd. -- said the purpose of sponsoring the fireworks display is to celebrate the National Day of the motherland, the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the Chinese motherland, and to welcome Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, which carries a strong message to unite all peoples of Hong Kong for the success and prosperity of China.

The Chairman of the Chamber Ma Kai Cheung told reporters the fireworks display is to "commemorate this happy and historic occasion."

According to the organizer, the fireworks display with a cost of 3 million Hong Kong dollars has 10 scenes lasting for 23 minutes and 26 seconds, including the 8th scene "We are Readyˇ¨, which welcomes the coming of the Beijing Olympic Games, and the 9th scene "10th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland", which celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return and wish all the bests to the home country and Hong Kong.
