16th CPC Central Committee holds 7th plenum

BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Seventh Plenary Session of the16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held from Oct. 9 to 12 in Beijing.

It was decided at the plenum that the 17th CPC National Congress be convened from Oct. 15 in Beijing, according to a communique of the plenum issued on Friday.

A total of 190 members and 152 alternate members of the CPC Central Committee attended the four-day plenum, with members of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and leading officials of relevant departments attending as non-voting members.

The plenum was presided over by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered an important speech.

Hu, entrusted by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made a work report, which was discussed and approved at the plenum. The meeting also discussed and approved an amendment to the Constitution of the CPC.
