China: New bird flu fatality

China's Ministry of Health has reported a fatal human case of H5N1 bird flu.

A 22-year-old man, surnamed Li died last month after developing a fever and headache.

Li lived in Yongzhou City, in the central province of Hunan. He tested positive for the H5N1 bird flu virus strain, according to China's Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

It did not specify how Li might have contracted the disease.

The World Health Organization says this is the eighteenth fatality linked to the H5N1 strain in China since 2003.

The virus has killed at least 227 people around the world.
