Beijing Olympic organizers took reporters on a tour of the site where athletes will be accommodated during the Games on Wednesday. The Olympic Village will open its doors to athletes two weeks before the opening ceremony.
These apartment buildings will host around 16,000 athletes and officials expected to use the facilities during the Olympics and 7,000 during the Paralympics.
Solar power will be used to light lawns, courtyards and streets in the Olympic Village, while rainwater will also be recycled. Each apartment will have broadband Internet access and a special security system incorporating a fingerprint locking device. It remains to be seen how the athletes will like them, but the journalists taking a tour on Wednesday seemed impressed.
