Beijing highlights Thailand Kite Festival

The tenth International Kite Festival soared to the heights in Thailand last weekend. 100 teams from 17 countries and regions participated, showcasing the latest high-flying designs. The Beijing Kite Association, representing China proved a highlight of the festival with its Olympic Kites.

The 65 meter kites inspired by the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games and the Paralympics won high praise for the Beijing team. The top of the kite is shaped like a dragon. The body features patterns of 38 Olympic sports events.

Xu Rongzhen, secretary general of Beijing Kite Association, said, "It is the 5th time we've attended the festival. We're not only showcasing the kites on the Olympic theme, we're also showing the kites made with traditional techniques."

The Thailand International Kite Festival is held every two years. This year's was the 10th festival. Kite flyers from around the world bring their latest innovations. Some three-dimensional kites also were shown.
