Deputy Fu Qiping is from Tengtou township, in Zhejiang province. He is the CPC branch head in the village, and also a "green" advocate.

The village set up the country's first environmental protection committee at township level -- 18 years ago.

He says that since the establishment of the committee the village has rejected over 60 investment plans from big enterprises.

NPC deputy Fu Qiping said, "Once a businessman from Indonesia expressed his will to invest in our township. His potential investment totaled over ten million yuan. But we rejected the project. That's because our environmental protection evaluation warned of its pollution threat."

His efforts over the past 18 years have finally paid off. And the "green" village has become a profitable tourism attraction.

In 2007 alone, the township's income from the tourism sector alone -- totaled over 70 million yuan.

Meanwhile, Deputy Yuan Miaozhi from Zhangbei, in Hebei province is also a proponent of ecological agriculture.

She's been working on an environmentally-friendly plan for her home soil since graduation in 1976.

The ecological forests that she's been promoting have created a stunning view of the town. And they have also created a miracle in the improvement of the livelihood of the local people.

NPC deputy Yuan Miaozhi said, "By planting trees, the soil has become rich for farming. For instance, the output of potatoes in each unit of area surged to 100 kilograms. But in the past, the output was only 25 kilograms.¡¨

Yuan Miaozhi has brought over 20 suggestions promoting "green" business to this year's National People's Congress session.

She says the people in her village are looking forward to building a non-wood forest. And they are also expecting more harvests from green policies.
