China hold Australia to 0-0 draw

Staying with football with news from the Asian World Cup qualifiers. China hosted their second group one opponent Australia in a vital match on Wednesday. Kickoff was in Kunming, Yunnan province, at an altitude of almost 2000 meters.

Despite the absence of some key players, Australia started strongly. China's Feng Xiaoting received a yellow card for a foul on Archie Thompson. The foul forced the Australian forward to retire later in the match. China got plenty of chances in the first half.

Zheng Zhi's spectacular tip fooled an Australian defender, but the scoreline remained unchanged: 0-0, at half time.

Neither side managed to break the deadlock in the second half. China received a penalty shot with three minutes left in the match.

But international player Shao Jiayi missed the golden opportunity, and the match ended goalless. China will next visit Qatar in June.
