The Beijing Olympic flame has arrived in San Francisco for the sixth leg of the global torch relay. The torch is scheduled to begin its route at one pm local time on Wednesday.
This is where the relay starts - China Basin Park, located in the southeast corner of the city center. The park is famous for baseball and forms part of McCovey Cove, named after legendary San Francisco Giants first baseman Willie McCovey.
After the torch is lit, the first torchbearer will run along 3rd Street. It will then turn down the longest stretch of the course, the Embarcadero, a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.
Next, the torch will pass Fisherman's Wharf, a scenic place full of restaurants of many different kinds of cuisine. It attracts thousands of tourists every day.
The torch will turn around at Polk Street and return along the Embarcadero to Justin Herman Plaza. A closing ceremony is scheduled to take place at the plaza.
The 10-kilometer leg is expected to last about an hour and a half. The theme for the San Francisco relay is "A Sustainable Journey".
