The charm and culture of Tangka art is the focus of an exhibition opening on China's second Cultural Heritage Day, in June. Northwest China's Qinghai province is the feature attraction. The region has a profound cultural history and a tradition of colorful Tibetan Buddhist art. Now the best of Qinghai will be on display for visitors, from around the world.

Tangka is a kind of scroll painting mounted on fabric. It has distinctive ethnic features and a strong religious flavor. Its unique artistic style is highly prized among the Tibetan people. Tangka will be the main focus of the upcoming exhibition, along with embroidery, shadow puppets and farmers' paintings. There will also be masks - many of which are on China's intangible cultural heritage list.

Live performances featuring Regong art, one of the region's most influential genres will enhance the ethnic flavor.

The exhibition, which starts June 14th, will also mark the beginning of the fifth Qinghai Folk Culture and Tourism Festival.
