Tunisian envoy travels to Baghdad to discuss release of prisoners

TUNIS, March 9 (Xinhua) -- The spokesman for Tunisia's presidency, Adnene Mancer, travelled to Iraq's capital of Baghdad on Saturday to discuss the release of Tunisian prisoners held in Iraq, official TAP press agency reported.

During his mission in Baghdad, Mancer will meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki, Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hoshyar Zebari, among other officials.

According to a statement released by Tunisia's presidency on Saturday, Mancer will hand in two letters from Tunisia's President Moncef Marzouki to Iraq's President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Maliki respectively.

According to recent estimates, hundreds of Tunisian prisoners are still held in Iraq on charges of terrorism and illegal entry into the country.
