ISLAMABAD, April 14 (Xinhua) -- At least six militants were killed in an airstrike launched by Pakistani army in the country's northwest tribal area of Orakzai agency on Tuesday, local media reported.

Samaa TV said that an overnight operation, army jet fighters pounded three militants' hideouts in Saifal Darra and Shakar Tangi area of Orakzai Agency, a restive tribal area along Pakistan- Afghanistan border.

Identities of the killed militants have not been revealed yet.

Army sources were quoted as saying that the aerial strike was launched on the basis of a tip-off of presence of high value targets in the area.

The offensive was launched in retaliation of a recent attack by the militants on a military convoy that left four soldiers killed in North Waziristan agency.
