Toyota maintains lead in Indonesian market

JAKARTA, Jan. 26(Xinhuanet)-- Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. has reported a 40.7 percent rise in sale in the Indonesian market to reach 141,944 units in 2004 and continues to become the market leader in the country.

Toyota grabbed a mammoth 29.4 percent of the Indonesian market share last year, reported the Bisnis Indonesia newspaper.

Quoting data from PT Toyota Astra Motor(TAM), a joint venture between Toyota and local auto firm PT Astra International, the newspaper said Toyota controls 44.1 percent of sedan market and 50.1 percent of compact car market.

Top five automakers(in sale volume) in 2004 included Toyota with 141,944 units, Mitsubishi 89,590, Suzuki 82,242, Daihatsu 47,623 and Honda 46,500.
