EU to launch probe into Chinese textile imports

BRUSSELS, April 24(Xinhuanet)-- European Union Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said Sunday that the EU would launch investigations into nine categories of Chinese textile exports to the 25-nation bloc.

The European Commission will conduct a rapid probe to determineif market disruption has occurred and whether the EU should imposespecial safeguard measures.

The commission will also hold immediate consultations with China in a bid to find a satisfactory solution.

The EU trade chief said the process could take at most two months, hoping to have results by June.

The categories to be put under scrutiny are T-shirts, pullovers,blouses, stockings and socks, men's trousers, women's overcoats, brassieres, flax or ramie yarn and woven fabrics flax. Enditem
