BEIJING, Aug. 31(Xinhuanet)-- China and the United States continued their fourth round of textile talks Wednesday afternoon, according to the Information Office of China's Ministry of Commerce.
The Information Office gave no details of the talks. But it said there will be no press briefing when the talks conclude.
The US Embassy said the US side will not hold press briefing either.
The two sides began their fourth found of talks Tuesday morning. After the first day's negotiation, the Information Office said the two sides"further exchanged views" and"clarified their points of view."
According to statistics from China's General Administration of Customs, China's textile exports totaled 50.36 billion US dollars in the first half of the year, of which the textile export to the United States reached 8.34 billion dollars.
Claiming that textiles imports from China had substantially increased this year after the elimination of global quotas on Jan.1, the United States began to take restrictive measures or investigations for some 19 China-made textile products since May.
China expressed displeasure for each move adopted by the US, reiterating that the acts run counter to rules of the World Trade Organization and the spirit of free trade.
To tackle the textile disputes, China and the United States held three rounds of talks on June 17, July 8, and Aug. 17, respectively, during which the two sides failed to reach any agreement. Enditem
