Sino-EU textile talks continue on technical level
2005-09-05 00:57:13 Xinhua English

BEIJING, Sept. 5(Xinhuanet)-- Technical-level consultations over Sino-EU textile trade are still going on, said an official with China's Ministry of Commerce(MOFCOM) on Monday.

Since both China and the EU would uphold their own interests, a win-win result will have to be achieved, he said.

To attend the Sino-EU summit held here Monday, Bo Xilai, the Minister of Commerce and the EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson temporarily left the Beijing Hotel, where they had continued their talks over Sino-EU textile trade at 8:00 Monday morning.

The talks began at about 10:00 Sunday morning and stretched into early Monday morning without any indication of an imminent agreement.

China and EU officials tried to seek ways to resolve this issue at their technical-level consultations on Aug. 25 without any agreement reached.

Both sides reached an agreement in June, setting new quotas on ten categories of textile products from China. But the quotas have been filled rapidly as many EU importers and retailers had ordered large quantities of goods from China several months before the new quotas were set. Enditem
