SINGAPORE, Sept. 5(Xinhuanet)-- Consumer associations of Singapore and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) here on Monday, working towards better consumer safeguard for both countries.

The MOU between the Consumer Association of Singapore(CASE) and the China Consumers' Association(CCA) makes possible for consumers from the two nations to get compensation from each other's countries without going abroad.

Focusing on product testing as a major aspect of cooperation, the two consumer bodies also vowed to forge an information sharing system for exchanging results of their market research and consumer product tests.

Items to be tested include food expiry date, aquarium filter pumps, mobile phone radiation levels, mercury content in batteries and energy-saving lamps.

With more than 800,000 Chinese visitors arriving in Singapore every year, China has become the city state's second largest visitor-generating market.

CASE's MOU with CCA came after an analog with its Indian counterpart, which was concluded weeks ago. Enditem
