China, EU to launch regular vice foreign ministerial strategic dialogue mechanism

BEIJING, Sept. 5(Xinhuanet)-- China and the European Union(EU) will launch a regular vice foreign ministerial strategic dialogue mechanism to enhance cooperation on key bilateral and international issues.

According to a joint statement issued here Monday at the Eighth China-EU Summit, the two sides agreed to push forward earlynegotiations on a new China-EU Framework Agreement in a bid to"reflect the full breadth and depth of the strategic partnership between China and the EU".

The EU reaffirmed its continued adherence to the one-China policy.

During the China-EU Summit, the two sides signed an MOU to launch the bilateral dialogue on their strategies in energy and transport sectors.

A China-EU partnership on climate change will be established tostrengthen cooperation and dialogue on climate change including clean energy, and promote sustainable development, according to a joint declaration on climate change between the two.

The two sides also agreed to conduct technical cooperation on such key areas as energy efficiency, energy conservation, and new and renewable energy.

Both sides highlighted the role of the United Nations(UN), vowing to continue to cooperate in international and regional affairs with the UN at the core.

China and the EU pledged to strengthen science and technology partnership, and expressed their satisfaction at China-EU cooperation within the framework of the Galileo programme. The twosides will also enhance cooperation in education, aviation, tourism and other sectors.

In addition, China urged the EU to lift the arms embargo at an early date. The EU side reaffirmed its willingness to continue to work toward lifting the embargo. Enditem
