JAKARTA, Nov. 11(Xinhuanet)-- Indonesia would make a commitment to liberalize its market for scores of agricultural products during the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Forum(APEC) to be held in South Korea from Nov. 18 to 20, an official said here on Friday.
"There will be our commitment to imply liberalization to open the sector," Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu told reporters at the presidential office.
However, the minister said that some agricultural products would be excluded from the track to get special treatment.
She said that her ministry had not decided yet on the type of commodities that would be excluded.
She said the decision would be based on the criteria of food security, poverty alleviation and rural development.
"With those criteria, we would choose a number of products that would be excluded," she added.
She said Indonesia's goal in APEC was the creation of fair trade mainly for the developing countries."Here the special issues in Indonesia are special products and special safeguard mechanism for our agriculture," she said, without giving further explanation of the liberalization plan.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyoho will leave for the APEC meeting on Nov. 17. He will deliver a speech on taxation and infrastructure, investment law and rules of law. Enditem
