JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 6(Xinhuanet)-- The South African rand Friday rallied to a fresh eight-month best level as the US dollar came under renewed pressure on the news that the U.S. economy generated far few jobs than anticipated during December. The news saw the rand firm to 6.0901 against the dollar-- a level it last traded at on May 10, 2005, said an I-Net Bridge report. At 15:49(1349 GMT), the rand was bid at 6.1050 per dollar from a previous close of 6.1465. It was bid at 7.4250 to the euro from a previous 7.4531 and at 10.7355 against sterling from 10.7640 before. The report said the dollar fell slightly on the news that the U.S. economy generated far few jobs than anticipated during December, reinforcing expectations that the U.S. rate-hike cycle may soon come to an end.
