SHANGHAI, Dec 24, 2007 (AFP) - Chinese share prices closed sharply higher Monday, adding 2.60 percent as gains on regional markets sparked broadbased buying here, dealers said.
They said the market opened higher bolstered by strength in consumer stocks before a round of buying in blue chips pushed the key Shanghai index above 5,200 points, its highest closing in a month.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers A and B shares, closed up 132.48 points at 5,234.26 on turnover of 140.19 billion yuan (18.69 billion US dollars).
