NEW YORK, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Wall Street advanced in early trading Monday, as Washington Mutual is expected to acquire a five billion U.S. dollars injection from private equity firms.

Mortgage lender Washington Mutual is close to a deal to get five billion dollars injection from the TPG and other investors, according to The Wall Street Journal. The company, which has suffered big losses tied to subprime mortgages, would become the latest U.S. financial institution to reach such a deal. Washington Mutual rose 15 percent in the early trading.

In addition, Internet giant Yahoo Inc., under pressure of a three-week deadline from Microsoft to accept its 41 billion dollars buyout bid, said Monday it doesn't oppose a deal with Microsoft but wants a better offer.

The Dow rose 62.69 to 12,672.11. Broader indexes climbed. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 8.85 to 1,379.25; and the Nasdaq advanced 15.11 to 2,386.09.
