Chinese share prices closed up 0.36 percent Tuesday on more buying interest after a rebound in the previous session, dealers said.

They said airline stocks surged on speculation of a faster appreciating yuan, but heavyweight banks and oil refiners tumbled as investors booked profits after previous gains.

The Shanghai Composite Index, which tracks yuan-denominated A shares and hard-currency B shares, jumped 1.24 percent, or 44.65 points, to 3,644.27 at 3pm.

Gainers in the Shanghai market outnumbered losers 736 to 102, while 15 were unchanged.

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which covers the mainland's smaller stock market, was up 2.64 percent, or 28.17 points, to 1,095.80.

The Shanghai A-share Index rose 13.44 points or 0.36 percent to 3,790.69 on turnover of 92.4 billion yuan. The Shenzhen A-share Index was up 21.61 points or 1.93 percent at 1,142.44 on turnover of 43.3 billion yuan.
