NEW YORK -- Stocks added to losses on Thursday after Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank data showed factory activity in the mid-Atlantic region shrank more than expected, adding to the picture of an economic slowdown.
The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) was down 52.60 points, or 0.42 percent, at 12,566.67. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index (.SPX) was down 6.28 points, or 0.46 percent, at 1,358.43. The Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) was down 16.15 points, or 0.69 percent, at 2,333.96.
