Chinese shares open 1.29% lower

BEIJING, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares opened lower on Tuesday morning.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, opened at 3,076.72 points, down 1.29 percent or 40.26 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange opened at 10,857.19 points, losing 2.15 percent or 238.14 points.

The drops compared with Monday's slight rise, when the Shanghai Composite Index closed at 3,116.98 points, up 22.31 points, or 0.72 percent, from the previous close.
