Chinese share prices closed mixed on Tuesday, with the Shanghai bourse rising 0.99 percent to reverse heavy losses in the morning, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index finished at 3,147.79, up 0.99 percent from yesterday's close. The index, which was down 3.03 percent in morning trade, tumbled to a low of 2,990.79 before buyers started to make a move.
Still, losers outnumbered gainers 609 to 277 while 22 counters remained unchanged. Turnover amounted to 58.1 billion yuan (US$8.3 billion), down from 75.3 billion yuan a day before.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which covers the mainland's smaller stock market, was down 0.65 percent to 915.74
The Shanghai A-share Index was up 32.32 points or 0.99 percent to 3303.09 on turnover of 58.6 billion yuan, but the Shenzhen A-share Index lost 6.56 points or 0.68 percent to 959.60 on turnover of 27.6 billion yuan.
