SHANGHAI, May 5, 2008 - Chinese share prices were higher in Monday morning trade on follow-through interest after the key index jumped nearly five percent in the previous session, dealers said.

They said a 25 basis point rate cut by the US Federal Reserve last week also encouraged Chinese investors.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers A and B shares, was up 31.59 points or 0.86 percent to 3,724.70.

The Shanghai A-share index added 33.25 points or 0.86 percent to 3,908.47 points, while the Shenzhen A-share index rose 7.78 points or 0.68 percent to 1,160.33.
