Wall St opens sharply lower on bank jitters and oil

NEW YORK - U.S. stocks tumbled at the open on Friday as concerns about the outlook for U.S. banks fueled a sell-off in financial stocks, and a rebound in oil prices stirred spending worries.

The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) dropped 102.67 points, or 0.85 percent, to 11,960.42. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index (.SPX) slid 11.41 points, or 0.85 percent, to 1,331.42. The Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) fell 26.26 points, or 1.07 percent, to 2,435.80.
