Chinese shares higher in morning trading

Chinese share prices rose Thursday morning as gains in overseas markets and a further drop in oil prices boosted market sentiment, dealers said.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers A and B shares, climbed 34.37 points, or 1.21 percent, to 2,872.22.

The Shanghai A-share index was up 36.13 points, or 1.21 percent, to 3,013.02, while the Shenzhen A-share index gained 12.07 points, or 1.36 percent, at 899.56 points.
