Chinese shares lower in morning trading

Chinese share prices tumbled Tuesday morning as investors took cues from weak performances of US financial stocks and sold shares in their mainland counterparts, dealers said.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers A and B shares, was down 53.52 points, or 1.84 percent, at 2,849.49.

The Shanghai A-share index fell 56.32 points, or 1.85 percent, to 2,989.19, while the Shenzhen A-share index shed 14.96 points, or 1.64 percent, at 896.87.
