Du Juan, former executive director of Gome is reported to be in police custody for alleged wrongdoings in association with her husband Huang Guangyu, founder and former chairman of the giant consumer electronics retailer.

Huang is reported to be assisting police in the investigation of irregular share trading and has been in custody since November 2008.

A Gome spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.

Du is 36 years old. After graduating from University of Science and Technology Beijing, she worked at Bank of China where she met Huang, who was a client of the bank. They were married in 1996 and Du later joined Gome as the company's executive director.

After Huang was arrested, the whereabouts of Du was subject to wide speculation.

In December last year, Gome suspended the executive duties of Huang and also said Du resigned.
