Wall Street falls at open on stronger dollar

NEW YORK – Stock indexes fell at the open on Monday as a rise in the U.S. dollar weighed on commodity prices and natural resource stocks.

The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) dropped 48.97 points, or 0.43 percent, to 11,395.11. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index (.SPX) fell 4.71 points, or 0.38 percent, to 1,221.14. The Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) lost 7.87 points, or 0.31 percent, to 2,571.11.
