U.S. stocks end higher on Bernanke's optimistic remarks

NEW YORK, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks erased early losses and ended firmly higher on Friday after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke gave a relatively optimistic assessment on the economy.

The blue-chip Dow gained 1.2 percent at the close. The broader S&P 500 jumped about 1.5 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq rallied about 2.5 percent.
