YANGON, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's state-run domestic airlines, the Myanma Airways, will operate ground handling service jointly with the Dnata Company, based in the United Arab Emirate ( UAE), under a memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties in Yangon, official media reported Sunday.

It is the first time for the Myanmar Airways to carry out such services with a foreign company.

The Myanmar Airways itself is now giving ground handling services to seven international airlines and the joint services with the Dnata will be for other fresh airlines, said the New Light of Myanmar.

The move came in the light of planned extended flight of five new international airlines to Myanmar in October, namely, South Korea's KAL, China's Hong Kong-based Dragon Airline, Chinese Taipei's EVA, Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA), and Qatar Airways.

Meanwhile, airlines from Germany and Bangladesh have approached Myanmar's civil aviation authorities for launching direct flight to Yangon.

Flights between Yangon and the Philippino capital Manila are also expected to be launched before the end of this year.

At present, besides the Myanmar Airways International flying internationally as Myanmar's national flag carrier, there are 13 foreign airlines flying Yangon which comprise Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Thai Airways International, Indian Airlines, Air Asia, Taiwan region's China Airlines, Silk Air, Malaysian Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Jetstar Asia, and Vietnam Airlines.

In addition to the 64-year-old state-operated Myanmar Airways, there are also five other private-run domestic airlines in Myanmar, namely Air Mandalay, Yangon Airways, Air Bagan, Asian Wings and Air Kanbawza.
