Toyota to pay repair fees for cars damaged in anti-Japan protests

FAW Toyota will pay the repair fees for those whose Toyota cars were damaged in anti-Japan protests amid the Diaoyu Islands dispute, FAW Toyota PR department told the reporter this morning.

“We have launched a special customer care project to pay the repair fees. However, the project is not a compensation scheme since the loss is not caused by Toyota,” said the PR staff.

“As long as customers provide evidences to show that the damage was caused by the Diaoyu Island dispute, we will cover the repair fees that the insurances do not cover. For those without insurances, we will pay all the repair fees. For those who want to buy new Toyota car, we will provide extra 20,000 compensation,” the staff added.

According to sources, Toyota Motor Corp. saw its sales in China fall by half in September compared to August.
