September 21, China may achieve its long-term plan of having 40,000 megawatts of nuclear power capacity four to five years ahead of schedule, the official Xinhua Net reported Tuesday, citing Zhang Guobao, head of the National Energy Administration and deputy director of China’s National Development and Reform Commision.
The State Council, or Cabinet, has approved a plan to build 34 reactors with a capacity of 36,920 megawatts, Zhang said Monday without giving a schedule.
Thus far, 25 reactors with a capacity of 27, 730 megawatts have started construction, the paper added.
