BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER

North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Saturday launched a large-scale photovoltaic power construction project in the Kubuqi desert. It is estimated that it will realize a total installed capacity of approximately 2 GW.

Located in the city of Ordos, the project is expected to cover approximately 6,700 hectares and achieve its full grid-connected power generation capacity before the end of 2023.

Nearly 12 billion yuan (about 1.86 billion U.S. dollars) will be pooled for the project in a bid to better utilize and restore the desert, safeguard the ecological security of the Yellow River basin, and help the country achieve its carbon peak and carbon neutrality as promised.

ROBOTS MAKE ROBOTS

Swiss tech giant ABB will realize "robots make robots" in Shanghai, the company announced at the 2021 International Business Leaders' Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai held on Friday.

With a total investment of 150 million dollars, ABB's new robotics factory will be put into operation in the first quarter of 2022. Production in the facility will be based on cells of automation, with robots moving from station to station, enabling greater customization and more flexibility than in traditional, linear production systems.

BEIDOU FORUM

A global forum on China-Central Asia cooperation concerning China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) was held in northwest China's Gansu Province.

Representatives from China and Central Asian countries including Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as well as international organizations, attended the forum online or offline.

A themed exhibition on the BDS is also being held during the event, with relevant products and application scenarios including those in the transportation, logistics, tourism, agriculture and animal husbandry sectors on display. Enditem
