List of new professions unveiled
2004-12-03 00:19:21 XinhuaEnglish
BEIJING, Dec. 3(Xinhuanet)-- It seems that Chinese people now have more answers to the aged-old ice-breaker"What do you do?". The Ministry of Labor and Social Security announced Thursday in Beijing a list of ten new professions, the second new career list unveiled this year.

The ten new officically-recognized professions include conference and exhibition planner, digital video producer, landscape designer, furniture designer, pet health attender and clients manager, all of which fall into the category of the modern service industry. Chen Yu, an official from China's national Job-Training Center, says this new list provides very helpful information when people try to find a job.

"the emerging of these new professions caters to the needs of society. Job-hunters have an indication of what are the hot jobs. Besides, since these are new professions, few people are doing them, so pay will be relatively high."

The official says that other new professions which are also under consideration include credit manager, which is very new to China. Since China established the job category listing in 1999, nearly 2000 professions have been listed.
