Top legislator calls for more exchanges with Iceland

BEIJING, Jan. 12(Xinhuanet)-- Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo said here Wednesday China places great importance on its relations with Iceland, which have been growing smoothly and fruitful.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress(NPC), said China is ready to further deepen cooperation with Iceland so as to push bilateral relations to a new level.

Wu made the remarks during his meeting with Speaker of Iceland Parliament Halldor Blondal in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Wu said the NPC is ready to strengthen multi-level exchanges and cooperation with Iceland Parliament so as to deepen understanding and trust between the two countries and two peoples.He said the legislatures of the two countries should play an active role in the development of bilateral relations.

Blondal said Iceland will continue to stick to the One-China policy. He also expressed the willingness to step up parliament-to-parliament exchanges as an important way to deepen bilateral links.
