¡@BEIJING, Jan. 24(Xinhuanet)-- The Organization Department of the Communist Party of China(CPC) Central Committee has issued a circular to confirm the fruitful results all local departments have gotten in strengthening the supervision over official promotion.

The Organization Department assigned investigation teams last year to check irr egularities and corruption in the promotion of Party officials.

Investigators were sent to 11 provinces and municipalities and four central government departments, according to the circular.

The teams checked how the localities and central departments implemented the Provisions on the Selection of Party and Government Cadres and found that irregularities and corruption didexist in some localities and institutions.

The circular urges leading officials of all levels to be aware of the"great importance" of the Provisions and to take"substantial measures" to implement them.

The Organization Department calls for severe punishment for those who have tried to get promoted through illegal means.
