Teenagers aged from 13 to 18 are the major group affected by the epidemic. Seventy-seven percent of the epidemic victims in Anhui Province are elementary or middle school children.

According Gao, compared with the common figure of 100 to 200 cases every year, the 62 meningitis cases confirmed so far is not abnormal.
