Chinese leaders mourn death of senior health ministry official

BEIJING, Feb. 7(Xinhuanet)-- Top Chinese leaders mourned over the death of Yang Chun, former vice minister of the Ministry of Health.

Yang died of illness on Jan. 19 at the age of 88.

While Yang was in hospital and after she died, top Chinese leaders including Hu
Jintao, Jiang Zemin, Zeng Qinghong, Wu Yi, YuZhengsheng and He Guoqiang showed their sympathy and condolence, sources said.

Yang, a native of Sichuan Province in southwest China, joined in the Communist Party of China-led revolution in 1936 and became a CPC member in 1937.

She worked as local military and government official and then central government official until 1980 when she became vice healthminister.

She was a deputy to the First, Second and Third National People's Congress and member of the Sixth and Seventh National Committeeof the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC).

Her remains have been donated to medical use at her behest.
