China builds 1st Tibetan medicine databank

LANZHOU, March 1(Xinhuanet)-- China has built its first databank on traditional Tibetan medicine which can be read on website of the environment science information center of the Lanzhou Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The databank was jointly built by the environment science information center of the Lanzhou Branch of the Chinese Academy ofSciences, Northwest China Nationality University and the plateau organism research institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Information of the databank can be searched at the homepage of theenvironment science information center.

It provides access to information on Tibetan medicine resources,medical literature, prescriptions, research and production firms and experts on Tibetan medicine.

To date, more than 2,000 categories of plants, 40 animal species and 50 kinds of minerals in China have been served as ingredients of Tibetan medicine. Tibetan medicine has turned into the pillar industry in Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai and Gansu provinces in recent years.

The databank will be turned into a website in future.
