BEIJING, March 1(Xinhuanet)-- An organizing committee chaired by China's Chief Justice was set up Tuesday, to begin preparation for the upcoming congress to the World Jurist Association(WJA) this September.
The 22nd Congress on the Law of the World will be held in Beijing and Shanghai from Sept. 4 to 10.
"The Rule of Law and Harmony of International Society" was set as the theme of the congress, said Xiao Yang, the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme People's Court who led the 44-member committee mainly composed of elite in China's justice circle.
"Law is the language with which we communicate with the world,"Xiao said. He pledged to make the conference a high-level gala forthe world's legal community.
The congress will focus on the rule of law, the role each country plays in building a harmonious international community andfuture challenges, said Cao Jianming, vice president of the Supreme People's Court.
The topics will cover legal cooperation, law and politics, law and international trade, law and technology, law and environment protection and legal education, Cao said. The conference will holdsimulation trials with chief justice and judges of international court sitting on the collegial panel.
Founded in 1963, the World Jurist Association is a non-government organization based in Washington. The major activity for WJA is the biennial Congress on the Law of the World that has been held around the world, aiming to provide free and open forumsfor judges, lawyers, law professors in different countries to cooperate with each other.
China hosted the 14th Congress on the Law of the World in 1990.
