State Council calls for restraints on power plant construction
2005-03-02 05:25:21 XinhuaEnglish

BEIJING, March 2(Xinhuanet)-- China's State Council Wednesday instructed all government departments to overhaul power plant construction projects and immediately stop all those without official approval and all necessary evaluations and surveys.

All power plant construction projects must be reappraised one by one in line with the national industry development policy and the approved distribution arrangement on power plants, according to the decision made at Wednesday's State Council meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao, was convened to work on measures to curb rampant power plant construction across the country, which has emerged since the country began suffering from serious power shortages over the past year.
