MANILA, March 8(Xinhuanet)-- The Philippines and Brunei agreed to enhance the education standards in the two countries through a memorandum of understanding(MOU), a local TV reported Tuesday.
According to the report from the ABS-CBN news channel, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo, who is in Bandar Seri Begawan for a two-day working visit, said that the MOU seeks to"broaden cooperation in the field of education and expand people-to-people relations."
Last year, the Brunei government agreed to provide textbooks and teaching resources to the Philippines to upgrade the educationin its southern islands of Mindanao.
Apart from education, Romulo is also set to meet the Brunei foreign minister, Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and the Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, to discuss Brunei's commitment to peace and development efforts in Mindanao.
As the first mission of ceasefire monitoring, a 10-man Brunei delegation arrived in Mindanao in February to secure the implementation of a ceasefire agreement between the Philippine government and the rebel group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
