Liuzhou vice mayor killed in expressway pileup

BEIHAI, Guangxi, April 23(Xinhuanet)-- Four people, including a vice mayor, died from an expressway pileup in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in early Saturday, local sources confirmed.

The accident, involving two trucks and a car, occurred at around 1:00 am in Hepu County, on an expressway linking the regional capital Nanning with Beihai, a major coastal city, said Tian Jingfeng, a surviving truck driver.

"A truck hit mine and its cab was crashed," Tian told Xinhua."Just two or three minutes after I called police, a car hit that truck."

Two passengers in the car were killed, including Lu Yipeng, vice mayor of Liuzhou, and Hua Chaoyan, an official with the Beihai municipal government, said a traffic policeman.

The driver of the second truck and a man on its front seat also died in the accident, he said. Enditem
