BEIJING, April 29(Xinhuanet)-- The first meeting between top leaders of the Communist Party of China(CPC) and Kuomintang(KMT) Party of China in 60 years will help ease tensions and promote further understanding across the Taiwan Straits, said an opinion poll in the mainland Friday.

According to the poll of 1,200 people, conducted by the Social Survey Institute of China, 93 percent of the respondents were"looking forward to seeing the meeting by CPC Central Committee General Secretary Hu Jintao and KMT Chairman Lien Chan", and 89 percent of them"wished the meeting a successful one."

Eighty-three percent of the respondents said the meeting between Hu and Lien will"help ease tensions and promote understanding across the Taiwan Straits, which will push the development of both sides."

Ninety-two percent believed the meeting will"leave an unerasable mark in the hearts of the Chinese people on both sides, and will win their hearts."

Hu Jintao met with Lien Chan in Beijing on Friday afternoon,the first meeting by top leaders of the two parties since 1945. Enditem
